They look so excited. Her shorts look really great. There's a tip from Oliver &S where you sew the top part of the waistband just a teeny bit in the fold which prevents the elastic from rolling but it also gives it a more professional look. You've done great on the sewing. Me, well, I am still pondering....

Kwik Sew also uses a similar hint in some of their kids patterns - where you stitch through the elastic in the waistband side seams. I've started using a method I got shown at Janome when buying my overlocker- overlock the elastic to the inside of the waistband, turn waistband (and elastic) in again and then stitch through the elastic from the right side using a longer straight stitch and stretching it as you sew.... Maybe I should try and find a link, it's easier than it sounds!
